Root canal treatment is used to save a severely damaged, decayed or infected tooth. Tooth cracks, tooth fractures, severe decay, facial trauma, repeated procedures on the same tooth are among the reasons why the tooth in question needs root canal treatment. Root canal treatment takes its name from the cavities inside the tooth root, called canals. Root canal treatment, which is performed by removing the dental nerve and pulp, that is, the tooth pulp, and cleaning the inside of the tooth, prevents the surrounding tissue around the tooth from becoming infected, causing a dental abscess and creating more serious problems. It is important to perform root canal treatment as early as possible in order to save the problematic tooth and repair it before tooth loss.

The first step in root canal treatment, which can be performed by a specialist dentist or endodontist, is an X-ray. X-rays are used to visualize the condition of the canals inside the tooth root and the presence of infection in the surrounding tissues. Accordingly, the specialist plans the root canal treatment to be applied to the tooth. Anesthesia comes into play in the second stage. Root canal treatment is a treatment method performed under local anesthesia. Through anesthesia, the area next to the tooth is numbed. In the third step, a cavity (hole) is drilled into the tooth. The problematic pulp area, decayed nerve tissue and infected particles are removed. The inside of the tooth is completely cleaned and disinfected. In the fourth stage, filling is performed. In order to remove the pulp and dental nerve, the cavity opened in the tooth root is filled using a special rubber compound. It is aimed to prevent possible infections thanks to the cavity filled with this substance called guta percha, which is compatible with the human body and does not cause any allergic reaction. At the end of this stage, root canal treatment is completed.
